Teaching Abroad
The majority of teaching positions overseas are for
English teachers. Teaching English abroad offers a range of options for
longer-term work abroad.
Many positions require nothing more than being a native
speaker of English.
The programs below provide opportunities to
teach English abroad without teaching credentials as well as other
opportunities. Most offer a salary and
some offer accommodation and/or insurance.

Programs
China Education
Initiative - CEI is an innovative nonprofit organization taking a unique
approach to eliminating educational inequity in China by enlisting the U.S.
and China's most promising future leaders in the effort.
CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) - Teach abroad
programs offered in Chile, China, Spain and Thailand. Bachelor’s
degree, English language fluency and teaching experience required. Spanish
language skills required for Spain and Chile. Monthly stipend and
insurance provided. Accommodations provided in some programs.
French Teaching Assistantship Program – French Embassy - Program of the
French Ministry of Education. More than 1,500 teaching assistant positions
are offered in French primary and secondary schools. Job involves 12 hours
of English conversation classes per week. Basic French proficiency
required. Monthly salary. Position is from October to April. Application
deadlines in December, January, and February. Early applications encouraged.
Teaching English in France as an Assistant
Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships - One-year positions available
in Argentina, Belgium and
Luxembourg, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia,
Korea, Malaysia, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey.

currently enrolled students is mid-September.
Austrian Fulbright Commission - Financed by the Austrian Ministry of
Education, Science and Culture, this program provides U.S.
university graduates with opportunities to work as English teaching
assistants throughout.>
U.S. teaching assistants are assigned to one or two
Austrian secondary schools and required to assist teachers of English in
classroom instruction 12 hours per week.
Applicants should have at least a Bachelor's degree and be interested in
careers in education. Working knowledge of German required.
Central European Teaching Program - Placements for school year in
Hungary, Poland, Romania,
Slovakia, and other Central European countries. Must
have bachelor's degree; all degrees are welcome. Experience teaching
ESL or other subject preferred. Teachers of English,
History, Literature, Creative Writing, French, German, Social Studies and
American Culture are needed. Instruction in English. Housing, salary and
basic health insurance provided.
The American-Scandinavian Foundation - Teach English as a foreign
language in Finnish kindergartens, schools, colleges, private and public
institutions.

International Teaching Advantage - ITA is a company that helps people
find teaching positions in China.
Peace Corps - Education is the Peace Corps' largest program area.
Volunteers teach English in middle and high schools. U.S. citizens
only.
Princeton in Asia - Teaching fellowship program that places
approximately 115 full-year teaching fellows in Cambodia, China/Hong Kong
East Timor, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Laos,
Malaysia, Mongolia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and
Vietnam. Salary, insurance and housing provided. Asian language ability is
not a prerequisite.
World Teach - Program places volunteer teachers in developing countries.
Based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University,
AIDE
(Association of International Development and Exchange) - Teaching
programs in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru China and Spain.
