Dear Mr. Vandros:
I enjoyed talking with you on Friday, April 9, about my interest in the
training program at Shell. I'm glad the blizzard didn't cancel your trip
to Wesleyan. Who would have expected it in April?
Our discussion made me more certain than ever that I want to join
Shell's training program after I graduate next month. Your reflections
on your experience as a trainee brought to life everything I have been
reading and hearing about the program. As a Colby graduate, you can
appreciate my gravitating toward a program which is relatively small,
highly selective, and has a low attrition rate. Further, I was pleased
to hear that, because of the individual attention trainees receive,
English majors do as well in the program as business majors. (As an
aside, I thought you'd be interested to know that the Virginia Woolf
thesis chapter we discussed was well received by my advisor.)
In addition to enthusiasm, I could bring excellent communication and
organizational skills to my work in the Real Estate and Land
Acquisitions Division as evidenced by my summer experience as a public
relations intern. Finally, the fact that I speak Spanish and Portuguese
makes me particularly interested in the South American land prospects.
I would welcome the opportunity to visit Shell and speak with others
about my interest in joining the company. I am planning to be in Dallas
over spring break and could arrange to be in Houston anytime between
March 21 and April 3. I will telephone you if I haven't heard from you
before I leave for vacation.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely, Name
