Puppetsweat Theater: Tragical Mirth—A History of the Atlantic Ocean
Work in Progress Showing
Friday, March 1 & Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 8pm
Puppetsweat Theater and its co-founder, Theater Department Artist in Residence Leslie Weinberg, present Tragical Mirth, a kaleidoscopic examination of humanity's mis/use of the ever-changing ocean and its resources. The folktale The Fisherman and His Wife is employed as a point of departure. The performance is an interactive work in progress, intended to elicit feedback and comments from the audience. With both lyricism and anarchic humor, science and satire, the work begins to explore natural and human systems that are increasingly coming in conflict in the 21st century. Parental guidance is advised due to puppet nudity, puppet violence, and some adult language. We invite all who are interested in this exhaustive subject to participate in the development of this new work. Commissioned by the Creative Campus Initiative of the Center for the Arts with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
