Alice Neel (American, 1900-1984)

Boy in Sailor Suit, 1934, oil on canvas

The Alice Neel portrait reproduced above was donated to the museum in 1999, and it was featured shortly afterwards in a DAC exhibition of recent acquisitions. Other 20th-century American paintings in the collection include works by Edward H. Potthast (1857-1927) and Charles Sheeler (1883-1965) as illustrated on other DAC paintings pages, as well as All Soundings are Referred to High Water, a 1947 oil by Kay Sage (1898-1963).
