Lewis Hine (1874-1940) and Berenice Abbott (1898-1991)Lewis Hine photographs in the DAC Collection include Steel Worker, Empire State, as well as a group of 14 vintage photographs taken for the National Child Labor Committee. In the DAC archives are Hine's own identifications and descriptions of these subjects. Among the DAC's 78 photographs by Berenice Abbott are 50 views of pre-Civil-War urban architecture, commissioned by Henry-Russell Hitchcock at Wesleyan in 1932. Many of these are known only in prints at the DAC. This information was accurate as of 1997, but since then it has been integrated into the DAC's illustrated collections pages. The museum keeps this legacy page online for the convenience of those who may have bookmarked it or who find it via a link from another site or a search engine, but we recommend that most users consult our current collections pages.
