Goya

FANTASY AND REASON
Prints by Francisco Goya

Curated by Aliki Hasiotis and Samantha Morrow (both B.A. 1997), this exhibition illuminated Goya's critical commentary on Spanish society and the etching techniques with which he conveyed his ideas. On view were selections from his most famous series: The Caprichos, Disasters of War, Bullfights, and Proverbs.

Until the advent of photography, prints were the primary means of communicating visual ideas. In centering this exhibition primarily on scientific exploration, curator Danielle Schaff '99 selected such works as early maps, anatomical and botanical studies, and images of new inventions.
