Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669), The Flight into Egypt, ca. 1653. Altered from "Tobias and the Angel" by Hercules Segers. Etching, engraving, and drypoint. Laid paper. Watermark: Legible fragment along top margin, consisting of a double-banded, nonparallel arc with writing or decoration between bands and stylized daisy shape below. Sixth of seven states. Dimensions: plate 212 x 281 mm. (8-3/8 x 11-1/8 in.); sheet 216 x 286 mm. (8-1/2 x 11-1/4 in.). References: Bartsch 56; Hind 266; White and Boon sixth of seven states. Accession no. 1941.D1.30.
