Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669), The Artist Drawing from a Model, ca. 1639, possibly printed later. Etching, drypoint, and engraving. Laid paper. Watermark: Strasbourg Lily, a close but not exact match to "Strasbourg Lily J.c." in Ash and Fletcher's Concordance (p. 210). Second of two states. Edition: Possibly a posthumous impression or possibly a lifetime impression (based on "Strasbourg Lily" watermark identification). Dimensions: plate 233 x 181 mm. (9-1/8 x 7-1/8 in.); sheet 250 x 198 mm. (9-7/8 x 7-3/4 in.). Provenance: J.C.D. Hebich (Lugt 1250). References: Bartsch 192; Hind 231; White and Boon second of two states. Accession no. 1958.38.1.
