Searching the DAC website

A search of the DAC site finds all DAC web pages that contain all requested terms. Some searching tips:

  • Capitalization doesn't matter: searches for Rembrandt and rembrandt yield the same results
  • Diacritics do matter: a search for Dürer finds "Dürer," but a search for Durer does not
  • Quotation marks limit a search to a phrase: a search for "wood engraving" omits pages that have those two words but not in that precise order
  • "-" before a term omits pages that contain it: a search for etching -Goya finds pages that have the word "etching" but not those that also have "Goya"

Searches are based on the terms on each page rather than, for example, those associated with each image on a page. Because of this, a query for "Goya aquatint" finds all pages that contain the terms "Goya" and "aquatint," without regard to their association. A Google help page offers more searching tips.

Searches are performed by Google's university search. The DAC collection is not searchable via the web, but a new database system will make this possible in the future. All web-accessible museum resources including online images may be found by means of Google searches; this discoverability is a side benefit of having each image reside in a static page at present.
