Application to the East Asian Studies Major Program

To apply to the EAST Major Program, students must follow these steps:

1. Fill out the Major Acceptance Card and submit it to the Registrar's Office. THIS CARD SHOULD BE SIGNED BY THE STUDENT'S NEW MAJOR ADVISER, NOT BY THE CHAIR. Any member of the EAST Program faculty can serve as a student's majors adviser. Often, this is someone with whom students have already had a class, but students should feel free to approach any faculty member -- particularly if they have an interest in that person's area of teaching or research.

2. We will receive a copy of the Card from the Registrar's office, and hook the student to his or her new adviser, as indicated on the Card, in the Electronic Portfolio.

3. We will send an email to both the student and his or her adviser, asking them to meet and fill in the student's plans in the Electronic Portfolio's "Major Requirements Worksheet." Once we have processed the information from the registrar's office (step 2, above), this page will appear in the student's Portfolio under "Academics & More / Your Wesleyan Career."

4. Only when the student has completed the Major Requirements Worksheet (with his or her adviser's approval) will he or she be formally accepted in to the major. This must be completed before pre-registration for Fall courses.

If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact the Chair of East Asian Studies at x3772.
