Economics Department Policy for Granting Economics Credit for:
i) Independent Study
(ECON 467)
ii) Education in the Field
(ECON 465-466, 469)
iii) Student-Run Group Tutorials
(ECON 419-420)
In order to be eligible to receive credit for any of these activities, a
student or group of students must fulfill the following two points:
1) In advance of the activity's beginning date, obtain an economics
department faculty sponsor who is willing to supervise the activity.
The student/s must develop, in conjunction with the sponsor, a description
of what the activity will entail, and the sponsor must sign the relevant
College form.
2) This application must then be submitted in advance of the activity's
beginning date to the economics department office for signature by the
department chair.
Any of these activities automatically count as general economics credit
towards graduation if approved, but are not normally eligible for elective
credit towards the economics major. A special justification for such a
request would need to be included in the written plan, and the sponsor must
assign a grade.
Please consult the Dean's office and/or the College's
Academic Regulations page for details on any of these special
credit-earning situations. All College regulations in addition to those
stated above must be fulfilled in order for a student to obtain credit.
