METROPOLIS

1927. Germany. Dir: Fritz Lang. With With Brigitte Helm. 123 min.

If you prefer your futuristic robo-gal to be a destructive doppelganger leading the working class to rebellion against the overlords of their dystopian society, then this ornate and influential silent fable should be right up your alley – and oh what a twisted, Expressionist alley that is. Accompanist Ben Model (MoMA) returns to improvise a live organ score.

Ben Model
Ben Model has served as resident silent film accompanist on both piano and organ for The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City for over 25 years. en composes and improvises all his own scores, and performs in a style that is  evocative of the silent era.  Ben is also a silent film historian. He will give an introduction to the film and will be available after the screening to take questions.
