Two students will serve as Davison Art Center Imaging Project Assistants, working in a precise, efficient, and collegial manner to assist a small team of project employees and full-time staff.
Primary responsibility will be to perform standard procedures for preparing, tracking, and handling art objects for digital photography, including art handling for the project photographer. Assistants will be expected to shift flexibly among a wide range of project-related functions as requested. This collection digitization project is funded by a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
All work will take place at the DAC. The term of work will be June 14 through July 21, 2016, with 34 hours per week (Monday–Thursday, 8:45–6:00; 45-minute unpaid lunch break each day; no work on Fridays or on July 4-5).
Required Qualifications: Coursework or experience in a related arts, humanities, or technical field. Meticulous attention to procedural details. Solid reliability and promptness for morning start times. Ability to work collegially in a team with ambitious production goals. Ability to lift art storage boxes weighing up to 40 pounds and to transport art safely between rooms. Ability to spend significant periods of time in a darkened room with photographic strobe lights in use. Not required, but strongly preferred: art handling experience, especially with original works of art on paper in museum mats.
Interested Wesleyan students should submit a résumé with cover letter, and should be prepared to supply contact information for at least two references if asked. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning February 15, 2016, until both positions are filled. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply for this position.
