Job Title: Child Care Worker
Employer: Neighborhood Preschool
Address:
Qualifications/Description: The Neighborhood Preschool provides high-quality childcare to families with children between 4 months old and kindergarten entrance. Families affiliated with Wesleyan have priority for enrollment, as part of an agreement with the University, which provides our buildings, equipment and maintenance etc. Student workers are a valued and integral part of the staff. We try to keep our child/staff ratios very low and we rely on student workers to make this possible. We look forward to the energy, sensitivity, and ideas our work study students bring to our classrooms. In general, the children and staff will treat you as a teacher. We hope students will enjoy working with us. It can be very rewarding, as a way to spend non-academic time with other people as a link to the ‘real world,’ and as a way to enhance your resume (especially if you want to pursue a career with children). Most of all, it is a chance to give of yourself to the kids—and they will be very responsive! Children are grouped into three programs. The house at 20 Lawn Avenue has a group of 3-5 year olds on the first floor. The house at 115 High Street has a group of infants and toddlers on the first floor and a group of 3-5 year olds on the second floor. When you are hired, you are assigned to one of these programs on a regular schedule to fit around you classes: but you may be asked to work with another group of children from time to time as the need arises. Each program has a Lead Teacher and several other teachers who will be your direct supervisors; there is a Director as well.
