Position Management Overview
Wesleyan University uses full
position management for all employees, including temporary and student
employees. This means that all payments through the payroll system must be
assigned a position number. All position numbers are 5-digit numbers.
All regular employees have a unique
position number for their regular compensation. However special
compensation (like overtime, shift differentials, clothing allowances, etc.)
requires a special position number to be attached to the payment request.
These positions may be assigned to multiple employees.
Positions for student and temporary
employees can also have multiple people in them with the same position
number if the title and account number for all those being paid from the
position are the same. The position number must be used to report
hours for students and temps.
In most cases a position will
already exist. Documentation below describes how to look up position numbers
for different types of employees. If an account number changes, a new
position needs to be created because no one has previously occupied it or a
change in the information attached to a position must be made, a standard
form must be completed and submitted. New positions and changes on
positions usually take 2 to 3 business days. The links below will take you
to the information or the form indicated. If you need further information,
contacts are listed below the links.
