For Parents
Parent giving continues to surpass ever-increasing goals, each year accounting for a substantial part of the overall giving to the Wesleyan Fund. In FY 2006–2007, 27% of parents supported the Wesleyan Fund, with gifts in excess of $1,260,000—a 65% increase over last year.
Why Parents Give
Parents of Wesleyan students have very special reasons to want to increase financial gifts to the University:
- Of the $66,000 annual expense of a Wesleyan education per student, tuition and fees pays only $47,000. The Wesleyan Fund and the Endowment pay the missing $19,000 in the form of a Tuition Grant made possible through your gift and the other gifts of parents, alumni and friends.
- These gifts help close the gap between tuition, fees and endowment expenditures, and the overall expenses involved in operating our university. Most importantly, these gifts are helping Wesleyan succeed in decreasing its dependency on the endowment while allowing the university to maintain its high educational standards and commitment to need-blind admission.
- Gifts also make financial aid possible, a matter of interest not only to those students receiving financial aid but also to all Wesleyan students, whose educational experience is enriched by having a diverse student body. Your gifts also maintain Wesleyan’s commitment to giving students the tools for life-long learning.
- It is important that every family support Wesleyan, because every dollar counts. One parent giving $25,000 supports a single-year high need Wesleyan Fund scholarship; 250 parents giving $100 each accomplishes the same result.
