First Year Matters 2012
FTF:Earth and Justice for All
WELCOME Class of 2016!
Though your Wesleyan experience will get started on Arrival Day and the first two days of New Student Orientation, on Friday, August, 31st you will share in an experience many Wesleyan students before you have shared.
Wesleyan's First Year Matters (FYM) program, Feet to the Fire (F2F), will focus this year on issues related to environmental justice and will begin over the summer with your completion of the common reading list. This list is carefully selected by members of the planning group to encompass much of the academic breadth you may choose to explore during your time at Wesleyan.
Included in the common reading selections an artist web site and and photographic article from Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, LLC for you to explore. You can read about the artist and view both photographic compositions through the FYM Moodle page in your E-Portfolio
Once on campus, the FYM programming related to Orientation will unfold. You will first select a faculty presentation to attend followed by participating in a group discussion that will explore the issues related to energy incorporating the readings and the presentations as well your own beliefs and ideas.
Finally, you will participate in a culminating common experience. The Common Moment will help demonstrate the exploration of the same issues through music and movement. Led by Wesleyan faculty and musical ensembles, this event has been a highlight of the Orientation program and this year promises to be no different. You can see a video of the 2008 Common Moment below.
