About the Program

The GLSP is a liberal arts graduate program designed for working adults. Classes meet in evenings, on weekends, and over the summer.  The program offers open enrollment:  any student with a bachelor's degree is welcome to register for GLSP courses.

Students may choose to take courses for personal enrichment without pursuing a degree or they may apply for admission to degree candidacy.  The GLSP awards the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) degree and the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS).

The curriculum is academically rigorous and creatively intense, inspiring students to produce their best work in this intellectually vibrant community.  We invite you to join us at an upcoming Open House to learn more.

Quick Program Facts

Courses   The GLSP offers liberal arts courses in the areas of arts, humanities, mathematics, sciences, and social sciences.  Many courses are interdisciplinary, taught by Wesleyan faculty who are exploring the topics in their own research and writing. Approximately 20 courses are offered each term, and courses are not repeated frequently. View courses.

Small Classes   Maximum enrollment in any course is 18; some courses have lower enrollment limits.

Class Format   Most courses are seminars; others may be studio, field studies, or lecture/discussion.

Courseload   New students who work full-time are encouraged to take only one course during their first term.  A full-time courseload is defined as three courses per term; part-time is defined as two courses per term.

Students   GLSP students come from a broad range of backgrounds:  primary and secondary education, college administration, local industry, small business, non-profit and governmental agencies, homemakers, stay at home parents, and retirees.  Students range in age from their early twenties to their late eighties; the average GLSP student age is 44 years.

Faculty   Some of Wesleyan University's most celebrated faculty teach GLSP courses. Artists-in-residence at Wesleyan as well as well-known writers, artists, and distinguished faculty from area universities also teach GLSP courses.
