Information for Educators
Wesleyan's Graduate Liberal Studies Program offers school teachers,
librarians, and administrators the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree in
the liberal arts. Teachers study the academic subjects at the heart of the
liberal arts and sciences, deepen their knowledge of those areas in
which they teach, and explore areas new to them.
Unlike a master's degree within a particular discipline, courses in the GLSP
generally do not require prior coursework in the subject—students choose the courses that most interest them from
the beginning. Unlike a program focused on the practice of classroom
teaching,
the GLSP allows teachers to study academic subjects, pursue advanced research,
and discover new sources of study.
Originally founded in 1953 as the Graduate Summer School for
Teachers, the GLSP has a long and rich history of providing further education in
the classical liberal arts and sciences tradition to
public and private school educators.
Quick Facts:
- Approximately 40% of GLSP students are school teachers
- GLSP students teach at private and public schools across Connecticut,
throughout New England, and for the summer term some come from as far away
as California, Hawaii, and South Carolina
- Some teachers complete the program over four summers, taking no classes
during the fall or spring
- The GLSP offers summer housing on campus at reasonable rates
- Tuition discounts exclusively for educators are available
Financial Aid:
