Advising

The department will assign you a faculty adviser as soon as you declare a department major. You do not need to find a department faculty member who agrees to advise you before you apply to the major. Your faculty advisor for the major will be listed in your electronic portfolio when you are accepted into the major.

In consultation with your advisor, you should construct a comprehensive plan to complete your major. Ideally, you will develop this plan in the spring of your sophomore year in the process of pre-registering for junior year, fall semester courses. If your initial adviser goes on sabbatical or leave, the department will assign you to another faculty member. By approving your senior concentration form, your adviser certifies that the courses listed on the form, if successfully completed, satisfy the minimum requirements for the major.

Your advisor also approves “Transfers of Credits from U.S. Academic Institutions” and “Credits from Study Abroad Programs toward the department concentration and the major.
