Certificate Programs

Certificate programs at
Wesleyan supplement (but do not replace) a major. A certificate requires an
interdisciplinary set of courses that prepares a student for postgraduate
work in a specified interdisciplinary field. There are four certificate
programs at Wesleyan. The Government Department currently provides courses
for the two certificates below. Students may count the same government
course toward both the major and a certificate.
The Certificate in International Relations:
The Certificate in International Relations
prepares students for postgraduate degree programs in international affairs.
The Certificate requires proficiency in a
foreign language at least up to the intermediate college level, introductory
courses in international politics, economics, and the history of the
contemporary international system, and advanced courses in global
systems and area studies. The Public Affairs Center Governing Board
administers the Certificate through the PAC Director, currently Prof.
Richard Adelstein, and the Assistant to the Director, Madeleine Howenstine.
Application is made using the
Application Form
printed out from this webpage. Students who wish to earn the
Certificate are advised to consult the Director during the fall of their
senior year, taking with them a completed draft application.
Certificate in
Environmental Studies:
The mission of the
Certificate in Environmental Studies is to
understand the science and social science of environmental policy. The
curriculum includes courses in the natural sciences, Government, and
Economics, among other fields. |
