            JAMES MCGUIRE

      Professor in the Department of Government and a member of the Latin American Studies and East Asian Studies Programs. B.A., Swarthmore College, 1979; Ph. D. University of California, Berkeley, 1989. Author of Peronism Without Peron: Unions, Parties, and Democracy in Argentina (Stanford University Press, 1997), and of articles on political parties, trade unions, and strikes in Argentina; on transitions to democracy in Latin America; and on the political economy of development in East Asia and Latin America. Teaches courses in comparative politics, the politics of developing countries, and Latin American politics.
