Rich reported that student ass’t in Reslife is no longer working there due to sjb proceedings so they were a bit behind. Rich updated the website the night before this meeting. Family housing and group housing still issues with exact numbers, this will be an on-going Fall clean up. Rich will be visiting the houses.
Marina will make sure continuing grads receive the housing manual.
258 Court Street complaining about shingles falling off that are relatively newly placed on. Construction site has not been kept clean. Mel will look into it. Students need to contact x.3400 immediately.
Issue is who is living with whom and how is this determined. The same issue brought up with people who want to practice music. This was on the original housing application and was taken off without students knowledge. Rich passed around the housing application for new grads. Mo’s point is the concern with number of units and the community standards within the houses and being able to comply with those standards equitably. Marina suggested giving a better into or forum about housing expectations when living with others. Maybe in the new student orientation. According to Nick, the question of music had been omitted from the application, what was the process for that? Could it be added back on?
Rich is willing to try to replace this back into the system but it is not always going to work out. The committee will look at the application and reedit for the Spring.
According to the survey done by the graduate committee, this was the second priority to graduate students. Furniture is still overall in bad to poor condition. India House is scheduled to be sold this year, if not sold could it become a music house? Posssibly yes.
People in the newly furnished housing very happy. Folks need to contact x.3400 if there is a need for replacement furniture.
This needs to be brought to higher ups; Manny, Billy, and David. Marina will mention this to David first.
Who to speak with about the parking situation? Maryann Wiggin, first, and then Peter Patton. Issues are with 260 and 266 Pine Street. They used to have parking but now with the new parking lot that was taken away.
258 Court Street complaining that the folks who live in the condos are parking in their spaces. Mel will place signs indicating university parking. After the signs are up, students need to contact public safety if folks still park there.
124 High Street Residents would like to have a sticker to Lot “L”. Marina will speak with Dave Meyer once again. Jeff’s office will be enforcing the “no parking on grass” with all students by issuing fines of $25. There will be a general email to all students first.
Ed asked if the policy could consider widening pavements for cars in houses that are tagged for renovations. Good suggestion.
Mel will send Marina the roster and will forward to the gradhc email list. This has been done.
Jeff Miller will no longer be attending the meetings. Jeff Miller reports to Joyce Topshe. PW is managed by Bev Hugee. Manny Cunard should be attending these meetings instead of Jeff. We’ll miss you Jeff. Many thanks for all your efforts.
Marina did unofficially speak with Joanne Agostinelli about this issue. Joanne would like specifics. She did mention that there is no reason why her folks are going into the houses. They should be going into the basements.
Following items were added or tabled for the next meeting:
Next meeting is Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 12 noon in the graduate lounge. The Graduate Office will provide lunch. Manny Cunard has been invited and is planning to attend this meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Marina Melendez
