Back to all minutes

Present:

  • Mel Fogarty
  • Nick Hockin
  • Rich DeCapua
  • Ed Morehouse
  • Manny Cunard
  • Alina Britchi
  • Paula Matei
  • Marina Melendez.

Housing website - follow up

Rich is trying to involve more processes within the website. ITS is assisting him with this project. During winter break, they will place information such as # of rooms, room size and other pertinent information on-line. New and improved website should be ready for the new graduates coming in for next year. Mel’s houses will also be included in the updated version.

Unfortunately, it is still too difficult to report vacancies online. The changes occur too often.

Manny mentioned that a long-term goal is to have Lawn Ave and Home Ave (front half of Home) all graduate housing. The front of Brainerd Ave. will also be graduate housing. The back (further away from campus) will be sold off.

397 are still targeted for sale. However, Manny has promised that it will not sell without a contingency plan in place that works for music graduates. Nick reported that the music faculty did not show much interest in saving 397 High for graduate housing. Music graduates would like a replacement house with room for 4 or 5 individuals and space for practice rooms.

Manny announced that Court Street now has 2 apartments for short-term use (visitors, guests). The apartments are fully loaded, runs about $65-70 per night. This is much less than the hotels in the area.

Recycling in Park Washington

currently there are no decent recycle bins and not enough to serve the PW community. This is unofficial but Mel will be taking over responsibilities for PW sometime in December. Nick and Mel will work on providing better recycle containers with lids that are attached and clearer markings for the PW community. They will report to the committee next meeting.

Revision of the lease:

Rich passed out lease to all. Some wording will be added to #20 for clarification of the fee. Rich will present the final copy in the next meeting. Overall, all were in favor of the changes.

Revising the Application:

Rich will send out an electronic copy for folks to review and send edits. Rich will bring the revised copy to the next meeting for further review and acceptance. Nick brought up the issue of placing space on the application for folks to request who they might wish to live with. Rich wants to be assured that there is strong language in the application to suggest that folks still might not live with whom they wish.

It was mentioned that graduate housing is full. There are no vacancies. Marina did mention that two graduates will be leaving by the end of December and that 3 graduates are arriving in January for the second semester. Only two will need housing.

Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 24 at 11 am.

Respectfully submitted,
Marina J. Melendez
