Wesleyan Cinema Archives

The Wesleyan Cinema Archives provide a home for the University’s growing collections related to motion picture and television history. Committed to the care and preservation of paper materials, photographs, and memorabilia, the Archives contain a connoisseur’s collection of artists whose careers reflect unique aspects of cinema. Traditionally, the Archives do not include moving-image materials, though some of the collections do contain such items. The Cinema Archives are adjacent to the Center for the Arts. They are open Monday –Friday, 9:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m. Scholars, students, and other researchers working on bona fide topics are invited to call or write to schedule appointments and to inquire about the materials.

Davison Art Center

The Davison Art Center, located at 301 High Street, houses a collection of about 25,000 objects. Renowned for its holdings of nearly 18,000 prints by European and American artists, Wesleyan’s print collection is one of the two or three most important at an American university. The collection also includes about 6,000 photographs and smaller holdings of drawings, paintings, objects from Japan, Africa, and elsewhere, as well as a pewter collection. The DAC is attached to the historic Alsop House. Built in 1840, the Alsop House is one of the most distinguished monuments of the pre-Civil War period. This building and homes such as the Russell House are said to have led Charles Dickens to refer to High Street as "the finest street in America." A number of features of the Alsop House interior are reproduced in the Neo-Classical Gallery in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Read More...

’92 Theater

(The ’92 Theater will be closed for renovations during the 2002 –2003 academic year.)

The ’92 Theater was the original University Library, built in 1868. Donations by alumni from the class of 1892 funded renovation of the building after Olin Memorial Library opened in 1928. It now houses Second Stage, the student-run theater organizations that present numerous productions throughout the year. In addition, Theater and Dance department events are presented there.
