Financial Aid Office

Second Floor, North College

The Office of Financial Aid is committed to ensuring that the opportunity for a Wesleyan education is not denied to any student because of limited financial resources. To accomplish this goal, the office administers a broad range of need-based grants, scholarships, student employment, and loans designed to meet the financial needs of all eligible students. Whatever your circumstances, please keep in mind that the Office of Financial Aid staff is available to provide information on financing your Wesleyan education. Even if you do not qualify for financial aid, several alternative financing options such as installment payment plans and other supplemental loans are available to assist your family. In addition, free Internet scholarship (need-based as well as merit) searches are accessible from www.wesleyan.edu/finaid/scholarships.html. We encourage you to visit the Office of Financial Aid Resource Room to speak with an informed peer advisor or counselor.

Office hours are Monday –Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (4 p.m. during the summer). If you have any questions, please contact this office at 860 –685-2800 or by e-mail, finaid@wesleyan.edu.

Student Employment: Finding a Job

Students who have been allotted Federal Work-Study or WESWork employment may work part-time during the academic year to help meet their financial need. This is money that must be earned each semester; it is not guaranteed money that is set aside for students. Students will have access to job postings on the Web after arriving on campus in the fall provided complete Federal and State W-4 forms and a Federal I-9 Employment verification form are on file with the University.

Even if you do not have Federal Work-Study or WESWork eligibility, you may still work on campus, but you must locate jobs on your own. Students are welcome to view campus and local employment listings posted on the Job Board in the Office of Financial Aid.

Office hours are Monday –Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (4 p.m. during the summer). You may also reach the office by phone at (860) 685-2800

Payroll Office

212 College Street

The Payroll Office, as part of the Controller’s Office, is responsible for processing student worksheets submitted by the departments. Students deal directly with the Payroll Office staff on issues of tax withholding, W-2 statements, lost checks, and direct deposit.

All students must submit forms W-4 (Federal Income Tax Withholding Certificate) and CTW-4 (State of CT Income Tax Withholding Certificate) to the Payroll Office prior to the first day of work. Please note that earnings paid to full-time students during the academic year are not subject to Social Security/Medicare tax withholding. However, earnings paid during the summer session are subject to these taxes and will result in a separate W-2.

International students, as nonresident aliens, are required to fill out additional paperwork to determine their tax status, if they are eligible for a tax treaty exemption, and to understand their filing requirements under U.S. tax law.

Direct deposit of students' paychecks is available and encouraged.

Those students who have completed their degree requirements prior to graduation and who are no longer full-time students will be considered "periphery employees" for payroll purposes and will follow the temporary employee payment schedule and guidelines.

Office hours are Monday –Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and as necessary by appointment.

For more information, contact:

Katherine Wichlac, payroll manager 685-2969

Gladys Fountain, payroll coordinator 685-3309

Evelyn Harris, payroll coordinator 685-2835

The WesCard is your official University ID Card. Please keep it with you while on campus. When the transition is complete, the newly installed WesCard technology will allow you to use your card for virtually all retail and service transactions and access requirements while at Wesleyan, both on campus and in the Middletown Community.

Your Card Magnetic Stripe is encoded with information that allows you access to on-campus dining facilities as part of your Campus Meal Plan. The stripe is also separately encoded with information that allows you to create a cash pool (The Middletown Cash Program) for use at participating on-campus and off-campus merchants.

Take advantage of the many services available through the new WesCard and make your life at Wesleyan that much easier! Click here for more information.
