Voices Series Continues with a Performance by Acclaimed Puerto Rican
Guitarist
Middletown, Conn,
December 4, 2007— Lorena Garay plays guitar music that reflects a
beautiful blend of the music she loves—classical music and the rhythms of
Flamenco, Spain and South America. She is trained in classical guitar with a
Master of Music degree from The Hartt School of Music and a Bachelor of
Music degree from the Conservatory of Music in her native Puerto Rico. A
rising star on the Connecticut guitar scene, she has performed in some of
the state’s most prestigious series and venues , including Guitar Under the
Stars and the Bushnell Theater.
Garay performs as part of Green Street Arts Center’s Latina Voices
series on Friday, December 21st at 8pm. General admission is $8; tickets for
students, senior citizens and Green Street members are $5. Green Street is

Before the performance, members of the Green Street Arts Center staff are
hosting a holiday reception with eggnog and homemade cookies. Participation
is open to the public and those attending are invited to bring their own
holiday treat or a donation of peanut butter, jelly, bread or crackers for
Green Street’s Afterschool Arts Program. The reception is free with a ticket

About Lorena Garay
Lorena Garay's most important performances include Princeton University,
Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, among
others. At the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Pennsylvania, she
was the opening act for renowned guitar duo Strunz and Farrah. Lorena
performs regularly with well-known groups such as José González’s Criollo
Clasico, The Daniel Salazar Ensemble and Trio Surcari. She is a former band
member of groups such as Viva Quetzal, Sol Sin Fronteras and Son del Este.
She has also performed concerts with Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Roy
Brown, Puerto Rican concert guitarist Federico Cordero, and Puerto Rican
flamenco guitarist Val Ramos.
About the Green Street Arts Center
The Green Street Arts Center, now in its third year of programming, was
created to serve as both an anchor to the revitalization of the North End of
Middletown and as a unique artistic and educational resource for residents
of the neighborhood and the region. It is the result of a major
collaboration between Wesleyan University, the North End Action Team (NEAT),
the City of Middletown and other community and arts partners. The facility
offers a fully-equipped sound/recording, videography, digital photography,
writing and graphic arts lab. It also features two visual arts studios for
drawing, painting and sculpture, a dance studio and a performance studio .
