What
is SHAC?
The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is a group of students interested in health-related concerns on Wesleyan’s campus. The group was revitalized during the 2002 fall semester after soliciting membership from the student body at large. Members are selected by an application process and represent a diverse cross section of students at Wesleyan. The committee is instrumental in providing Health Services with information on how to better serve the health needs of students, but has no administrative authority and was not created to assume the authority of University administrative staffs.

actively participate in the publicity and marketing of health services to all students at Wesleyan
facilitate student feedback
act as “consumer representatives” in an advocacy role for quality student health care at Wesleyan

Sub-Committees:
Two sub-committees are currently active in SHAC:
1. A survey sub-committee is working to develop a feedback and opinion survey/assessment about health services to determine:
length since last visit to the
usage/history of
knowledge about
new services to be offered
other health services used off-campus (and reasons why)
knowledge of physician-on call service
financial and/or insurance issues
2. A marketing sub-committee is working to develop strategies for marketing health services and determine the type of materials needed to saturate campus with health information.
