If you haven’t been spending tons of meal card points in anticipation of having way too many, but have spent your points only when you were hungry this year, then you probably have a huge amount left. Since Weshop jacks up prices at the end of the year to keep people from getting as good a return on their money as they deserve, sometimes doubling or even tripling prices, it’s time to think about spending these points soon. Since Weshop no longer allows people totally overpriced electronics because it meant people spent all their points, you are now in the unfortunate circumstance of having to buy lots and lots of stuff. Many people take frosh to Weshop and buy them lots of ice cream and goodies. Others take huge amounts of people to dinner. Some take advantage of the mail order catalogue at Weshop to buy all sorts of pretty cool stuff for the summer. But if you don’t need food over the summer, don’t gorge yourself or feed others who also have meal plans, but instead remember STAMPEDE (Students Totally Against Meal Plan Extravagence and Dining Excess). In one year, it collected huge amounts of food in an attempt to buy out Weshop on a single day (the only time when Weshop just happens to decide to overstock), made a huge pile of food as a statement to administrators, and then gave the food to the office of Community Services to deliver to people who actually need it. It makes a statement to the university and is for a worthy cause. Without it, administrators have even more "reason" to argue that students don’t have many left over points at the end of the year, so the meal plan is adequate.
But regardlesss of what you do, spend those points. ARAMARK is nineteenth on the Fortune five hundred, and its execs make over a million dollars. It doesn’t need any more of a profit than the one it’s turning already.
