Credit for Advanced Placement Exams and International Baccalaureate Exams in History

Wesleyan credits for AP and IB exams in History are activated by successful completion of courses taken in the Wesleyan History Department, as follows:

AP Exam in American History with a grade of 4 or 5

  • Complete any History course (not necessarily American) numbered 151 or higher with a grade of B- or better.

  • Wesleyan credit = 1.00

  • No credit is given for a grade of 3.

AP Exam in European History with a grade of 4 or 5

  • Complete any History course (not necessarily European) numbered 151 or higher with a grade of B- or better.

  • Wesleyan credit = 1.00

  • No credit is given for a grade of 3.

AP Exam in World History with a grade of 4 or 5

  • Complete any History course (not necessarily World) numbered 151 or higher with a grade of B- or better.

  • Wesleyan credit = 1.00

  • No credit is given for a grade of 3.

Two AP History Exams with grades of 4 or 5

  • Complete any two History courses numbered 151 or higher with grades of B- or better.

  • Wesleyan credit = 2.00

  • No credit is given for a grade of 3.

IB History Exam, Higher Level with a grade of 5, 6, or 7

  • Complete any History course numbered 151 or higher with a grade of B- or better.

  • Wesleyan credit = 1.00

  • No credit is given for a grade below 5 on a Higher Level exam.

  • No credit is given for a Subsidiary Level exam.

Note: The History Department has decided that it does not accept A-Level exams for credit.
