Belichick Celebrates Wesleyan Scholarship
NFL Legend Supports Financial Aid
March 31, 2009
Cambridge – Wesleyan hosted Bill Belichick ’75, P’07 at a sold out benefit for student financial aid in Cambridge, MA. President Michael S. Roth ’78 engaged the Wesleyan alumnus and Head Coach of the NFL Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in a wide-ranging conversation that focused on excellence in life, higher education, career, and sports. Seated on stage before an audience of more than 310 alumni, parents, friends and fans, the two men engaged one another and the audience for nearly an hour of dialog, questions and answers, and occasional good-natured jibes. Both men clearly enjoyed the hour of give-and-take, comparing the challenges of leading a championship NFL franchise to leading Wesleyan, managing great athletes to managing academic high achievers.

At the conclusion of the program, Vice President for University Relations, Barbara-Jan Wilson, announced that the evening’s hosts, Trustee Joshua ’73 and Amy Boger P’06, P’09 would match all contributions from the attendees, which resulted in proceeds that exceeded the cost of one full scholarship to Wesleyan for four years. The scholarship will be named the Belichick Scholarship.
The “Conversation With Bill Belichick” event was presented by The Wesleyan Athletics Advisory Council and The Wesleyan Club of Boston. Joshua Boger thanked Peter Sonnabend ’76, P’08, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman, Sonesta International Hotel, for making the Royal Sonesta Boston available for the event. The Royal Sonesta Boston is situated on the banks of the Charles River in Cambridge.
