POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE:Director of Employee Benefits

TYPICAL DUTIES:TYPICAL DUTIES: Reporting to the Associate VP for Human Resources, the Director of Employee Benefits is responsible for design, implementation and administration of the university benefits program. Responsible for identifying new trends and employee needs; serving as an employee advocate; ensuring compliance with university policies and state and federal laws. Work in collaboration with executives, faculty, staff and benefits consultants. Day to day involvement in the administration of benefits programs and services.

  • Ensure benefit plans are responsive to both employee and university needs, cost effective and comply with regulations;
  • Manage benefit plans including: health, dental, retirement, life and disability insurances;
  • Oversee enrollment and termination process of coverage; ensure COBRA, ADA and FMLA compliance;
  • Develop and administer employee benefits orientation program;
  • Manage and participate in the annual open enrollment process'
  • Create a thorough, effective and on-going communication feedback process with faculty and staff, individually and in groups, to continuously monitor the effectiveness of the plans and administration of benefits;
  • Develop and implement an effective benefits communication strategy including: campus meetings, brochures, web-sites, newsletters and articles;
  • Provide exceptional customer service; serve as an employee advocate ensuring consistency and responsiveness;
  • Oversee the administration of monthly carrier payments, cost of benefit programs, disability programs, and Worker's Compensation;
  • Ensure timely and accurate data integrity with PeopleSoft and other HRIS systems; create reports as needed;
  • Supervise an Assistant Benefits Director and coordinate work with Human Resources and Payroll;
  • Prepare comprehensive reports analyzing competitive bids/data and formulate recommendations for new and current programs;
  • Responsible for data and process integrity;
  • Continuously evaluate benefits programs to ensure they provide value, are cost-effective and meet defined objectives;
  • Remain abreast of benefits trends and regulatory changes and recommend new or modified programs;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • MINIMUM DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Knowledge: BA/BS degree, Master's preferred, demonstrated continuous learner. Must have comprehensive knowledge of benefits plan design and implementation including laws and regulations. Experience: Minimum 6 years experience leading the benefits function. Successful benefits plan design, implementation and administration. Demonstrated creativity in benefits communications and project management experience. Proven customer-service oriented approach to benefits problems/issues. Skills: Highly effective interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; impeccable client service orientation. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee situations and maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Strong organizational skills; attention to detail; proven ability to set work priorities, analyze issues for cause and effect and make recommendations or implement solutions. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement. Internet literacy; strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with PeopleSoft HRIS; CEBS or CBP designation; experience in a University or Hospital.

    COMPETENCIES: Interpersonal savvy, customer service, patience, action oriented, emotional intelligence.
