| TYPICAL DUTIES: | The Development Communications team creates strategic print and web-based marketing and communications to cultivate, maintain and grow relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of Wesleyan University.
Reporting to the Director of Development Communications, the Editorial Assistant will support development communications initiatives and provide editorial and project development support in communications and marketing. The Editorial Assistant will be a central source of information about the status of various media projects within University Relations.
Responsibilities Include:
Gather, write, and/or edit news items and forward to various campus media, such as University Relations Web and University Communications;
Develop and adhere to critical path timelines for development communications projects including marketing communications; direct mail, HTML and Flash mail solicitations, invitations and announcements; as well as other communications, including web-based initiatives;
Monitor projects to achieve continuity of communications within University Relations;
Coordinate production and delivery of University Relations communications in various media formats;
Take charge of certain assigned projects and ensure their successful completion on time and on budget;
In cooperation with University Communications designers and production staff, create and maintain up-to-the-minute status reports regarding 15-20 development communications projects;
Other duties as requested.

| MINIMUM DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree and three years related experience. Proven competence in writing, editing, and proof-reading, including knowledge of grammar, style, and usage. Intermediate Word skills and ability to design and manage databases as part of the ordinary research functions associated with editorial activity. Proven ability to set priorities and plan ahead. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Proven respect for the power of communications and understanding of how to blend message to style in print, on the web, and at events for all aspects of fundraising and alumni communications including the annual fund, planned giving, and alumni and parent programs. Demonstrated vision for planning, overseeing, and improving multiple alumni communications, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated appreciation for research, accuracy, and the editorial process. Proven ability to work strategically with fundraisers in various areas of University Relations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An English or Journalism degree. Three years of experience at developing/producing marketing and/or fundraising communications. Proven understanding of communications principles including print, web, and broadcast; Demonstrated knowledge of desktop publishing.
