2018 Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment for 2018 benefits will start on Novemer 8, 2017.  Detailed information on benefit options and rates are included in the 2018 Benefits Enrollment Guide.  Please review this Guide prior to Open Enrollment.  In the meantime, here are the highlights:

Providers - There are no changes in providers for 2018. CIGNA will continue to be the medical and pharmacy provider for Wesleyan.  Delta Dental will continue to be the dental provider and EyeMed will offer the optional vison plan.  Benefit Strategies will continue to administer the flexible spending accounts: Dependent Care and MERA.

2018 Premiums – This year our medical premiums will increase by 10%.  This is a larger increase than in past years.  It is driven by the fact that our overall medical plan costs have risen over 30% due to increases in medical and pharmacy costs as well as increases in both our claim severity and frequency.    The University is committed to mitigating this and will absorb the difference and hold the increase to 10% for this year.  Dental and EyeMed premiums will increase 5% and 3% respectively.  All other premiums will remain level.

2018 Premium Subsidy – To continue to assist those employees earning less than an annualized salary of $58,530, the University will increase the subsidy applied to the medical premium by 10%.

Plan Design Changes - In order to help manage expenses, the following changes will be implemented effective 1/1/2018 for the Open Access Plus (POS) and Open Access Plus – In Network Only (HMO) plans:

  • The In Network deductible will increase from $100 for individuals and $200 for family coverage to $200 for individuals and $400 for family coverage.
  • The Out of Network deductible will increase from $250 for individuals and $500 for family coverage to $350 for individuals and $700 for family coverage.
  • The In Network out-of-pocket maximum for individuals will increase from $500 to $750 and the In Network out-of-pocket maximum for family coverage will increase from $1,000 to $1,500.
  • The Out of Network out-of-pocket maximum for individuals will increase from $1,250 to $2,500 and the out-of-pocket maximum for family coverage will increase from $1,500 to $3,000.
  • There are no changes to the Open Access Plus High Deductible Plan.
