Integration of Teaching and Research:
Wesleyan University emphasizes both teaching
and research. The cross fertilization between the two results in a
curriculum enriched by our scholarship. In the life sciences, the
integration of teaching and research is particularly important in our
laboratory courses. We have established, with Hughes support, a series
of upper-level laboratory courses with substantial project-oriented
components. Projects from our research programs are imported into
these courses, providing students with a research experience to
complement their lecture course work. This provides an alternative
research experience to the more intensive independent study option in
which students join research labs during term time and summers - see
Hughes summer research program.
Upper-level laboratories in the life sciences include:
| Biol 247 |
Laboratory in Neurophysiology |
| Biol 250 |
Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory |
| Biol 323 |
Advanced Lab in Molecular Developmental Biology |
| MB&B 294 |
Advanced Laboratory in Molecular Biology and Genetics. |
| MB&B 395 |
Structural Biology Laboratory |
The Wesleyan Hughes program provides support for these laboratories.
