Hughes Summer Research Fellowships

We are pleased to announce the 2008 Hughes Summer Research Program at Wesleyan University which will run from May 28 to August 1, 2008. This program is open to Frosh, Sophomores and Juniors currently enrolled at Wesleyan University. Our Wesleyan Hughes Summer Outreach is open to Frosh, Sophomores and Juniors who reside in Connecticut or are enrolled at other Connecticut colleges and universities.

Wesleyan faculty members serve as mentors in the Hughes Summer Research Program. The purview of the Hughes Program is life sciences. Therefore, it is expected that all applications will relate to the life sciences. A goal of our current grant is to encourage cross-disciplinary research, for example, linking the life and information sciences. In particular, we encourage summer projects in which students are mentored by two faculty in complementing fields.  To complement the research experience, the Summer Program also includes weekly seminars and workshops, a symposium, various social events, and a closing Poster Session. (See Summer Program and Menu to left.)

Students in groups under-represented in the sciences, including women, are especially encouraged to take advantage of this summer research opportunity.

Application forms can be downloaded from the web, or are available from Maureen Snow in the MB&B Office. The application form should be completed in consultation with the faculty mentor. All applications are due on Friday, March 7 in the MB&B Office, and awards will be announced by March 24. For students who are abroad, applications can be sent by fax or email, but they are still due by March 7.

The Summer Fellowship stipend for 2008 will be $3,800. It is expected that all summer students will work full time on their research and will not take on additional part-time employment during the summer program.
