DESIGNING POSTERS
If you missed the "how to make a poster" workshop, good advice is available in Pechenik's book and at http://www.ncsu.edu/project/postersFocus on how you can best present your project visually to a broad audience. Definitely ask for feedback from your PI and labmates as you go along.
CREATING POSTERS
You will be thumbtacking or clipping your poster to a foam board on an easel. The board measures 32" x 40"and can be used horizontally or vertically, but DO NOT glue anything directly to the board, so it can be re-used. Especially for first-timers, making separate panels gives you more versatility.Starting July 30,colored poster board will be available in room 242 HA (MB&B office).
If you are planning to print on the poster printer, you must schedule in advance to use (and pay for) the printer. The Wesleyan Hughes Program does not pay for this.
WORKSHOP: POSTER PRESENTATION PREPARATION
On Monday, July 23 1:00-2:30 pmSETUP
Easels, foam boards, push pins, and clips will be in the lobby upon your arrival for setup Friday at 10:30. There will be a booklet for all of the attendees (including you) listing the names, titles, abstracts and poster # of each participant. Check the booklet to see which board # to use. It is often easiest to put the board on the ground to pin up your panels.TAKEDOWN
At the end of the session, please take your poster downstairs, remove it from the white foam board, and re-mount it, again based on poster #, in the basement corridor (outside introductory biology laboratories). All boards and easels must be returned to the Science Center lobby at the end of the session.JOINT POSTERS and SPECIAL NEEDS
Occasionally, students who have worked together on a project, with the approval of their PI choose to make a joint poster instead of two related poster. If you are planning that, please let us know on your abstract form, so we can give the pair a single number, but double-sized board. Similarly, if you have separate but related posters, let us know to make sure you get adjacent numbers. If you have special needs for your poster, such as access to a power supply for a computer display, please let us know by Monday, July 30, so we can make arrangements.LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT POSTER SESSION!
