Academic Computing Services (ACS)
Overview of Support for Teaching and Research
We provide the Wesleyan faculty with a diverse set of support services
and resources to allow them to, where appropriate, incorporate technology into their teaching
and research.
These range from Course Management Systems that allow the creation of
sophisticated interactive course websites to more focused technologies that
enable communications, analysis of data, and
media creation and distribution.
The provision of these services is organized around somewhat traditional
disciplinary boundaries, with each faculty member assigned an Academic Computing
Manager who works one-on-one with their faculty to help them understand and
take advantage of these
services.
While much of our work focuses on the creation of network-based resources, we
also design and maintain computer labs and multimedia
classrooms.
We frequently promote and discuss these activities at the Academic (Technology) Roundtable, and by documenting how faculty at Wesleyan and elsewhere are using technology.
We gather feedback and help set our agenda through the use of three
discipline-based computing committees, and one University-wide computing
committee.
