Academic Computing Services (ACS)
Academic Computing Services provides a diverse set of services and resources
to support faculty in incorporating technology into their teaching
and research.
These range from Blackboard, an
environment for building interactive course websites, to more focused technologies that
enable communications, analysis of data, and
media creation and distribution.
The provision of these services is organized around somewhat traditional
disciplinary boundaries, with an Academic Computing
Manager (ACM) assigned to each department. The ACMs work one-on-one with
their faculty to help them understand and take advantage of academic
computing services.
While much of our work focuses on the creation of network-based resources, we
also design and maintain computer labs and multimedia
classrooms.
We frequently promote and discuss the interface of computing technology and
teaching at the Academic (Technology) Roundtable,
a lunch-time talk series co-sponsored by the Faculty Career Resource Center and
ITS.
We gather feedback and help set our agenda through the use of three
division-based computing committees and one University-wide computing
committee.
