ITS Database Administration Overview
Database administration is
responsible for the creation and maintenance of Wesleyan's databases, ensuring reliable, efficient, and timely access to
database information across the university.
Wesleyan uses Oracle Enterprise versions 9.2
and 10.2, running on both Linux Red Hat and Microsoft Windows.
Wesleyan's suite of applications
utilizing Oracle databases includes: PeopleSoft HRMS/CS 8.9, Millennium 7.5,
Blackboard Learning Objects,
Blackboard Onecard, Lyris 7.0, XYTHOS content management system, Autosys 4.5, a home-grown financial data warehouse, and various other
in-house applications. Approximately 15 production and 20
development/test instances are supported.
Additionally, there are five Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is used
for a handful of applications (event management system, financial aid, OrgPlus).
Wesleyan uses Oracle's Internet
Application Server (10.2gIAS), running on Linux Red Hat, for serving up database
information on the web, allowing for both unsecured and secured access.
