Using REMOTE DESKTOP
Macintosh OS X
Computers
Requirements:
- Your Macintosh computers must be running Mac OS X 10.3
or later
- The campus computer must be turned on and connected
to the network
The off-campus computer must have :
- High-Speed Internet Connection (DSL or Cable Modem)
- VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to campus

Preparing your campus computer:
- From the Apple menu on the top left of your screen,
choose System Preferences
- Click Sharing
- Click on the box next to Apple Remote Desktop and look at the bottom of
the window. It will say "Others can manage your computer using the
address your computer addresss". Make a note of
the address
displayed.
- Click Access Privileges
- In the window that appears, check the box for VNC
viewers and enter a password
- Click OK to close the settings for Remote Desktop
- Close the Sharing window

Connecting to your Campus Computer
To control a Mac that has been configured for Remote
Desktop you must have a VNC client program and know the address of the computer you wish to control (see
above).
While there are many VNC client programs available (and all
should work) one of the easiest and most reliable is called Chicken of the VNC.
You can get this program at the following URL:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/

Download the program and move it to your Applications
folder. Once open you will see a window similar to the one below.
Enter the computer name as mentioned above and the password you set.
Click Connect.
