CYRUS
The email access programs we currently use have been around a long time and
have limitations, specifically in regards to performance and available
features. Cyrus allows us to speed up mail considerably and will allow us to
offer a variety of new tools. You will also have a larger email
quota on the new system.
Why have some of my mailbox names changed?
The new mail system does not allow certain characters in mailbox names.
If your mailbox contained any of the characters shown below, the system will
replace each one with an underscore ( _ ). These characters are
{ } ! . / % * ^
Some of my mail is missing - what should I do?
All of your mail should have been transferred. If you logged in
before the transfer was complete, some of your messages would not yet be
present - you should wait a little while and check again. If it is
past the time indicated in your notification and mail still appears to be
missing, please contact ITS Operations at x4100.
What about mail that was sent to me during the
migration?
The system checks to see if additional mail was sent to you during the
transfer process and will deliver it to your new Inbox.
Pine has now moved to pine.wesleyan.edu; log in with your usual username and
password. After logging into Pine you will be prompted for a second login to
Cyrus (same username and password). Any Pine folders you had will be
preserved in the new system.
Contact ITS Operations at x 4100 and they will assist you in retrieving your
files.
If you use a POP mail program such as Outlook or Eudora, when you access
your email all messages are downloaded to your computer. As your
email program downloads messages it keeps track of which ones have been
downloaded. In the process of moving your email to the new
system, the identifier for each message changed so your email program does
not recognize the messages it has already downloaded and it brings them down
a second time. This will only happen the first time you check your
email after the migration. Simply sort on size or
subject and delete the duplicates.
