Exley Science Center, Science Library, Connector with Hall-Atwater - Scheduled Electrical Power Outage December 26, 2009 through January 1, 2010

The main electrical distribution equipment in Exley Science Center is nearing the end of its useful life.  Rather than suffer from an unplanned extended outage we propose to replace this equipment during the Christmas Break.  The replacement of this equipment will require outages throughout the Exley Science Center, Science Library and connector with Hall-Atwater.  Therefore, the Exley Science Center, Science Library and connector with Hall-Atwater will be closed from 6 AM on Saturday, December 26, 2009 through 5 PM on Friday, January 1, 2010.  Please be sure that all electronic equipment is properly shutdown prior to Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 4 AM.  The details of the schedule are as follows:

SHUTDOWN 1  Saturday, December 26, 2009, 6 AM to Noon
All electrical power shutdown, heat remains on, ITS Data Center on emergency generator.

During this event all of the lights and electrical power throughout the Exley Science Center, Science Library and connector with Hall-Atwater will be shutdown, heat throughout the building will be unaffected.  ITS Data Center will run on emergency generator.  During this shutdown we will place all of ITS Data Center on a back up generator so that all ITS Data Center services will be available.  At noon on Saturday December 26 we will return all power to the building.  ITS will have all of its power fed from a generator. The Academic Compute Clusters will be down from Wednesday, December 23 through late morning Tuesday, December 29. 

All antennas will be fed with generator power throughout this shutdown.  All antennas will suffer from a 30 minute shutdown in order to transfer them onto generator power. They will remain unaffected until they are moved back to regular power.

ITS personnel will have access to all ITS Data Center equipment without interruption should an emergency arise.

SHUTDOWN 2  Sunday December 27, 2009 at 12 Noon THROUGH Monday December 28, 2009 6 PM
All electrical power shutdown, heat remains on, All of ITS Data Center on back up generator

During this event all of the lights and electrical power throughout the Exley Science Center, Science Library and connector with Hall-Atwater will be shutdown.  ITS Data Center will be unaffected as it will be on a generator.  On Monday, December 8, 2009 at 6 PM we will need to put ITS Data Center back on its own generator as we migrate it to its final position, this will take 2 hours (academic computer cluster shutdown).  As of Monday, December 28, 2009 at 8 PM all of the lights and power throughout Exley will be on its permanent power source.  Heat throughout the building will be unaffected.

All antennas will be fed with generator power throughout this shutdown.  All antennas will suffer from a 30 minute shutdown in order to transfer them onto generator power.  They will remain unaffected until they are moved back to regular power.  We anticipate that we will move them from emergency power to regular power at MIDNIGHT, Monday, December 28, 2009.

SHUTDOWN 3  Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 6 AM through Friday January 1, 2010 at 5 PM
All services in the Exley basement and connector with Hall-Atwater shutdown for 30 hours, ITS not impacted, heat is off throughout building

During this event we will impact the power that feeds throughout the Exley basement, Science Library, including lighting, and the connector with Hall-Atwater.  These services will be restored on a temporary basis Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at NOON.  We believe, but are not positive at this time, that the Exley science tower will have lights and power throughout, with the exception of the basement, ground floor and connector with Hall-Atwater.

During this event, heat will be down throughout Exley Science Center, Science Library and connector with Hall-Atwater.  We will have a generator running pumps and fans to prevent freezing and maintain temperatures at around 50 degrees.

ITS will not be impacted at all during this time.

SHUTDOWN 4  Friday, January 1, 2010 from Noon to 5 PM
All services in Exley basement and connector with Hall-Atwater off for 5 hours while final connections are made

Shutdown 3 continues but on Friday, January 1, 2010 from NOON to 5 PM we will shutdown the power that throughout the Exley basement, Science Library, including lighting, and the connector with Hall-Atwater that was fed on a temporary basis and make its final connection to the new electrical gear.

As of 5 PM Friday, January 1, 2010 it is anticipated that all shutdowns will be complete.
