CFA Checklist

MIDI input, sequencing

  1. Open Finale.
  2. Click Setup Wizard and follow the steps; make sure to select at least one instrument track.
  3. Select the Hyperscribe tool (looks like a few notes on a piano keyboard).
  4. From the Hyperscribe menu, select Beat Source, then Playback and/or Click...
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the Playback Controls window, click Record.
  7. Listen for the click to start.
  8. Press keys on the MIDI controller and look for notes to appear on the staff.
  9. Press space to stop recording.
  10. Click play to listen to what you have recorded; if you hear notes, the controller is functioning.

Burn Audio CD

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Create a new playlist and add audio tracks to it (if iTunes has no files, you may have to search for some or import tracks from a CD).
  3. Insert recordable CD.
  4. At the popup window, select Open iTunes.
  5. Select the playlist you created.
  6. Click Burn Disc (at the lower right-hand corner).

Music Notation

  1. Open Finale.
  2. Click Setup Wizard and follow the steps; make sure to select at least one instrument track.
  3. Select the Simple Entry tool (looks like an eighth note).
  4. Click in one of the measures; if a note appears, Finale is working.

Audio Capture, editing

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Under the iTunes menu, select Preferences, then the Advanced section.
  3. Under the Importing tab, select Import Using: MP3 Encoder.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Insert audio CD.
  6. Select Import CD.
  7. Right-click an imported file and select Show in Finder from the drop-down menu.
  8. Copy the imported file to the desktop.
  9. Open Audacity.
  10. Under the File menu, select Open, locate the imported file on the desktop, and click OK.
  11. Apply effects to the audio by selecting part of the track and choosing an effect under the Effects menu.
  12. Ensure that the program is able to apply effects and edit MP3s.
  13. ***note: exporting as an MP3 requires an external library (LameLib) that is not installed by default***

B/W Printing

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Type Owen and Dan are such amazing Lab Managers!
  3. Print to CFALab_HP5100

Color Printing

  1. Download a color image and open in Photoshop.
  2. Edit the image in any way.
  3. Print to Xerox7750DN

Flatbed Scanning

  1. Open EPSON Scan.
  2. Place image on scanner bed.
  3. Click Preview.
  4. In the preview pane, select the desired portion of the image.
  5. Click Scan.
  6. Select destination folder.
  7. Enter filename under Prefix and reset Start Number to 001.
  8. Select image format.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Verify the scan by opening the file in Preview.

DVD Recording

  1. Insert blank DVD into DVD burner.
  2. On DVD recorder remote, press Source until the display blinks EXT1 and the record button glows red.
  3. Insert VHS tape into VHS deck and wait for it to start playing.
  4. Press record on DVD recorder.
  5. Press stop on DVD recorder to stop recording.
  6. Finalize disc.

Video Capture from DV tape (Final Cut Pro)

  1. Turn on DV deck.
  2. Set DV deck input to LINE.
  3. Open Final Cut Pro.
  4. Under the File menu, select Log and Capture.
  5. Under the Capture Settings tab, make sure Device Control is set to FireWire NTSC.
  6. Click Capture Now.
  7. To stop capturing, press ESC.

Burn DVD

  1. iDVD is only partially functional in the main lab at the moment.
