PC - Installing scanner drivers

  1. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Go to the hardware tab and click on the button to open the device manager
  3. Locate the HP8200 scanner in the list of devices. If there is no driver installed, the icon will have a yellow balloon over it.
    • If a driver appears to be installed and the icon is normal but scanning programs still cannot detect the driver then right click on the scanner and uninstall the driver before proceeding.
    • If the scanner does not appear in the list, then ensure that it is connected to the computer you are trying to use with a USB cable, and that it has power.
  4. Double-click on it and select the update drivers tab.
  5. When prompted point to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and press enter.
  6. You will be presented with another dialog box asking for the HP software D.  Click OK.
  7. At the dialog box click the drop-down arrow and select C:\WINDOWS\system32.
  8. The drivers will now install. You will likely be prompted to restart the computer afterwards. Do so, and the scanner will work immediately afterwards.

This needs to be done each time the scanner PC is imaged. This is unfortunate but unavoidable. Please do this as soon as possible after imaging, as well as when people request help.
