How to Create a New Image
- After keying in the application, clear cookies and cache (Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu, Start Menu, Customize, Clear)
- Log off, Log back in as bob on local domain.
- Change configuration (eg. Turn off auto-update, etc.)
- Reboot the computer
- Log on as labuser on local domain.
- Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, User Profiles, Settings.
- Highlight Bob's profile and click Copy To. Browse the directory to
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User. Click OK.
- Under the Browse field there is another category,
Permitted to Use, click the Change button. Click Locations button. You will get a dialogue box asking for credentials. Click Cancel. Highlight the local machine (top choice in the window). Click OK.
- 9. Under the
Enter object name to select field, type
'Everyone' (omit the quotation marks). Click Check Names.
- 10. Click OK. Yes/OK to everything.
- 11. Go to Paint application, open
C:\windows\imgdate.bmp. Change the date on the top right corner to today's date. File - Save.
- 12. Clear cache/cookies again. Log off and log back in as labuser.
- 13. Right click on
My Computer and choose Manage.
- 14. Expand 'Services and Applications' in left window. Highlight
Services. On the right window, choose Labstats. Click the Stop Service toolbar at the top.
- 15. On left window, go to Event Viewer. There will be 3 items (Application, Security & System) in it. Right click and
Clear All Events for each of them. Close window.
- 16. Right click on
Start menu, click Explorer.
- 17. Go to C: Windows directory and look for a file called
labstats.conf. Double-click on the file. Change the last two / three digits to -1. Save. Close all windows.
- 18. Right click on My Computer, Map Network Drive. Connect to
Z:\\dragon\ITSHome. Username: wesleyan\vspiars, enter password.
- 19. Go to 'vspiars' folder, UIU2, Sysprep.
- 20. Copy the 'sysprep' folder to C: drive.
- 21. Run
regedit. Find Map Network Drive (MRU) or Edit, Find \\dragon\ITSHome. Right click and delete a.
- 22. Right click on My Computer, Disconnect Network Drive.
- 23. Right click on My Computer, go to UIU2 disc, copy
automate.cfg, UIU.dat, UIU.exe, UIU.ICO, UIUHelp.chm to C:sysprep.
- 23a. Right click on My Computer, select Manage. Click Services. Find LabStats, right click and stop that service only.
- 23b. Right click Start Menu, choose Explore. Go to
C:\Windows\ and open labstats.conf - Edit the last set of digits to read -1. Save and close.
- 24. Clear cache/cookies again.
- 25. Go to
C:sysprep, double-click UIU.exe, allow program to run. Be sure to close all windows and applications before allowing UIU to proceed to the shutdown step.
- 26. The computer will shut-down. Afterwards, insert floppy disk into A: drive, power up the computer. Enter password.
- 27. Once Ghost has launched and begun running and the floppy disk light is off, take out floppy disk.
- 28. Image will be dumped to the server to the backup location of
\\Bigbird\backup.
- 29. To use this new image you will need to copy the production image files to a dated directory you will create in
\\Bigbird\2000\oldimage\. Once copied you can now delete the original production files out of \\Bigbird\2000. The reason for copy and not Move is that if a failure happens when you are moving you lose everything. With a copy you can recover if there is an issue.
- 30. Now that
\\Bigbird\2000 is clear you can now copy over the freshly uploaded image from \\Bigbird\backup to \\bigbird\2000.
