IMS TRAINING HOMEWORK PartII

1) Download the data for countries numbered 1 through 50 for both population and internet users for 2005.  It is in text format, and you can copy it into Excel

Note: YES, it is now possible to download the data directly in Excel format. NO you cannot do that (the formatting is different, I will know you did and your homework will not be graded)

2) Order the countries alphabetically. Make a line graph with the country’s population and the country’s name (Hint: Population is on the vertical axis). Copy the graph to a Word Document.

3) Order the countries by population (smallest country should appear first on your list). Make a scatter graphing population (x-axis) vs. internet users (y-axis). Add the trendline and display the equation of the line.

4)  Write a short paragraph (~ 10 lines)

(Choose one of the two options):

·         Option 1: Tell us what you see on your two graphs. What does it look like? Countries with larger population have a higher percentage of Internet users? No? Make at least 3 observations.

·         Option 2: Write a short paragraph telling us about your experience with IMS so far. Did you like training/shadowing/etc?

5)   Type your report in a Microsoft word document, insert the two excel charts. Then:

• Add your name and the date as a header at the top of the page.
• Add a hyperlink to the HDI web-site.
• Add a footnote citing the source of your data.
• Save the document as username.pdf (eg. pparker.pdf)
• Upload to WesFiles and share the file with me (Aneliya Valkova) and Jessica (En Xiang Ong).
• Email labtraining @ wesleyan.edu the link to your file. The subject of your email should be ‘IMS Training – Office Homework’.
