  Media directories
Where to put your files so others can experience them

Putting files into directories

Files may be placed into directories in a few different ways:
  1. Map a drive (PC); AFP or SMB mount (Mac)
  2. Media Database auto-upload
  3. FTP client, such as WS_FTP (PC) or Fetch (Mac)
  4. Web editor, such as FrontPage (PC) or GoLive (Mac)

Media directories on condor
The following condor directories support the use of media. Only the /media and /openmedia dirs support streaming audio and video.

/openmedia/username  media accessible inside and outside of Wesleyan domain
html/username/public_html  personal web files
/media/username  media restricted to Wesleyan domain
username/wescourses  course web sites organized by year and semester

The /media directories contains subdirectories for different types of media, and work in consort with the Media Database. Access to files placed in these directories is restricted to the Wesleyan domain.

Playing media
Media may be presented through an interface, like the Media Database or ERes which provides users help with finding what they want, or it may be linked from a web page. Users can also open a browser or media player to a URL in a media directory using the following convention rtsp:// (streaming media) or http://condor.wesleyan.edu/media/username/, where 'username' refers to the owner of the media in whose directory the files have been placed.

Department web sites
Note that department web files are stored on www.wesleyan.edu/department/. A separate password is maintained for department web sites. Images and progressive download audio and video can be placed within the department directory on www. Departments that wish to use streaming media should contact their academic computing manager.
