Ruckus at Wesleyan
September 2006

What is Ruckus?

The Ruckus Music Service is a Windows-only online entertainment service. Wesleyan students have FREE access to 1.5 million music tracks, licensed from the five major labels and a selection of independent labels. Faculty and staff may subscribe for $5.99 a month. All subscribers can download music to their own computers and organize it in playlists, using the Ruckus player. Standard Ruckus music tracks cannot be burned to a CD. For an additional $20 a semester, tracks can be uploaded to any Windows "Plays For Sure" subscription compatible player htp://www.playsforsure.com. Ruckus music does not work on the iPod.

Ruckus also has over 7000 movies from Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and MGM studios, 100 of which are available at any one time for download. The subscription cost for movies is $15 per semester, and includes unlimited downloads.

All content is Microsoft Digital Rights Management (DRM) encrypted. Files will only play while the Ruckus subscription is current. Wesleyan has contracted with Ruckus for two years, beginning fall semester, 2006. Because Ruckus revenues are derived from online advertising, there is no charge to Wesleyan or its students for Ruckus Music. Billing for all charged services is direct to the student's credit card.
