PC & Mac Support (http://helpdesk.wesleyan.edu and http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/store )
  • We support both PCs and Macs.
  • ITS Helpdesk offers the first line support
  • The service center associated with the computer store offers professional support for advanced problem resolution
  • The computer store will move to the Usdan Center in August '07 where both PCs, Macs and associated accessories can be purchased
Labs ( http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/labs )
  • We have seven public computing labs (including the language lab and the infocommons in Olin library).
  • We have 175 computers (Macs and PCs) in these labs. In addition, there are black & white as well as color printers and scanners.
  • In CFA Lab you can also do audio and video editing.
  • Students can run specialized instructional software from these computers (http://software.wesleyan.edu )
  • STLab and HASLab are open 24 hours
  • The labs are supported by lab consultants
Learning Objects (http://learningobjects.wesleyan.edu/ )
  • We work with faculty to develop interactive learning tools and animations that help students understand difficult concepts. These modules are shared across campus, with faculty at other institutions and are used both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Our projects range from animations of biological processes such as neurulation (embryonic development of the neural tube), to a simulated Indian village, where students can explore the complex interfaces and interactions among North Indians and their social and cultural lives by way of a series of interconnected maps, images, audio, and video segments.
  • We seek to enhance the liberal arts experience by providing content in modes not usually available by traditional means. Listen to the brief interviews below to hear what faculty have to say about developing these materials.
Electronic Portfolio ( http://www.wesleyan.edu/portfolio )
  • This portal like software is available to all students
  • Students can use this to access over 50 applications - eg. pre-registration, room selection, virtual enrollment, blackboard, webmail etc.
  • This is set up in June for incoming frosh and they use it to express their housing preference, take their placement exams from home, send in their pictures for ID card etc
  • Customizable - students can add other "channels" to their portfolio such as news, weather and sports newsfeeds.
